Meet me Down at Paisley Cross

Paisley

Meet me down at Paisley Cross,
On brighter sunny days
A call to local Paisley folk
From Linwood to the Braes.

I had a dream that crowds of folk were waiting by the mills
Children peered from doorways clear and more folk filled the Hills

And those of old held threads of gold to show their working years
While migrants frowned with threads of brown and cried with all their fears

Amidst our crumbling darker past and places left so rotten
Threads of darkness hanged in streets
For those who are forgotten

Threads of red the young men held for lovers everywhere, while grey threads were held by angry
teens to show they didn't care

Minorities with chequered pasts did weave the threads together
Creating quilts of peace and love to ease away their terror

No one did dare to touch the blue or ever shining green
For fears of rising once again old wounds the town has seen

Come and see our town's great love and bring your tales of glee
Bring your thread, we welcome you... for all the world to see.
